DENTAL IMPLANTS

DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dental implants are one of the revolutionary treatment in the field of restorative dentistry. Missing teeth can be embarrassing, causing people to hide their smile and lose their self-esteem. The space that missing teeth create can easily become infected with bacteria, causing other teeth to shift out of place, and making it difficult for people to speak or eat correctly. Dental implant is an undeformable artificial root anchored in the bone, which replaces a natural root absent or lost during the loss or extraction of a tooth, and on which is placed a dental crown to become part of the mouth and serve the same purposes of the original teeth ! Implants can maintain facial contour & prevents bone loss and deterioration that occurs when there is a missing tooth and are not replaced. Dental implants are known for their comfort, functionality, aesthetic, and permanent results.

Implant Material?

The dental implant is made of biocompatible biomaterials. The dental implant is made of commercially and medically pure titanium, a biomaterial that is very resistant to stresses: the implants cannot be deformed and do not give way under the mechanical stresses of chewing.

These days even Zirconia Implants are available and  Zirconia implants are not made of metal but of a very resistant ceramic material. Zirconia implant have superior aesthetic quality.

All On 4

Revolutionary All On 4 is an alternative to traditional dentures, that allows to permanently install a full set of dentures into the mouth that will function similar to natural teeth. It allows the replacement of at least 12 teeth in a jaw, with a fixed prosthesis, using only 4 to 6 dental implants per jaw in the same day of  the appointment. Two or three steps may be required to properly fit the complete appliance to dental implants. Success rates are higher than or traditional implant techniques. This technique of implant also helps patients by eliminating the need for bone grafts, which are invasive, expensive and uncomfortable for patients. Current digital implant planning and prosthesis makes it the first choice to use All On 4 for our full mouth rehabilitation cases. Also by using a limited number of dental implants, the cost is significantly lower than for traditional implant techniques !

Gentle Care is must!

The Process of Installing Implants

If one or more of your teeth fall out, you may qualify for dental implants as a way to permanently replace the missing teeth. We will do a thorough medical, dental and radiographic examination. Before we begin the procedure, your gums need to be healthy, and your jawbone needs to be strong. If we identify any cavities or signs of gum disease, we will need to treat it prior to the dental implant procedure.

Once you are cleared for the procedure we will take an impression of your mouth to create a new tooth in a dental lab. Each synthetic tooth will match the size and shape of the surrounding teeth, along with having a perfect colour match. This way your smile will appear completely natural once we complete the procedure. Many patients are satisfied with the results since no one can tell the difference between which teeth are real and which ones are synthetic!

The implants are surgically and skillfully placed in the jaw bone under local anesthesia. The surgery lasts from 10 to 20 min. There are sensations of slight vibration in the jaw, but it is absolutely painless. After Implant procedure there is very rarely swelling or mild pain for a day or two! You can resume normal activity the following day. However, it is not advisable to play sports during the 4 weeks following the operation, in order to allow the dental implant to heal. It is best not to chew on it during this time. Oral medications like analgesic / antibiotics are prescribed after the placement of the dental implant.   Over a few months, the implant will fuse to the jaw bone. Dental implants approximately take 3-4 months in the lower jaw and 5-6 months in the upper jaw to integrate. Once the fusion of the implant takes place, a custom-tailored dental crown will be affixed to the implant – creating a new tooth that looks and feels natural. The latest advances in the field make it possible to perform this surgical procedure, without opening the gum, according to the FLAPLESS ” method and to minimize the postoperative consequences !

A replacement tooth, or crown, does not decay like a natural tooth. However, you still need to brush, floss and care for it and your surrounding natural teeth in the same manner as natural teeth. Regular professional cleanings and dental checkups are also essential.

All statistical studies show proven reliability of implants in the long term. Implants have excellent strength and can last up to several decades. The new tooth is attached so securely, that patients can eat their favourite foods, maintain an active lifestyle, play sports, and more, without fear of their tooth becoming loose or falling out. Patients can enjoy the benefits and  never having to worry about their tooth again!
The team at Soham Dental provide dental implants in a way that, it is comfortable and functional. We take the time to make sure that every aspect of the procedure is completed correctly – the first time.

Caring for Dental Implants

Caring for Dental Implants

  • Once implants have been installed, they are extremely easy to take care.  We hear patients asking questions that range from “Do implants come out” to “How I brush my teeth”. Fortunately, the answers are not as complex as some people might believe. Since we install dental implants by creating a synthetic root system, they are durable and secure. The dental implants will not fall out or become loose. This means you can go play sports without worrying about your tooth coming out.
  • In order to care for your implants, we advise patients to brush and floss their teeth throughout the day like normal. Additionally, it is important to schedule dental exams and cleaning at least twice a year. While dental implants cannot become infected themselves, the teeth around them can! If, in the future, you suffer from a severe gum disease or a dental abscess, the infection can spread into your jawbone and hence can put your implants in jeopardy!

  • If you currently have implants and your teeth start to hurt, call to schedule an appointment immediately. This way we can identify any infection and treat it before it can spread into the jawbone. As long as you follow these simple preventative care steps, your implants and natural teeth should remain in good health.
